"At the moment we met, we became roommates. In Europe, we became travel companions and close friends. Returning home, we unexpectedly became more. Little did we know during our Florentine summer, we had met the love of our lives.
Having finished our first year of law school in May 2007, we had each decided to seize a final opportunity to study in Europe. The program we went through required us to find our own housing for the summer, and not knowing anyone else that was going, we both contacted the program director to see if she knew of someone looking for a roommate.
Luckily, she did.
Florence:
After exchanging a few emails and conducting a little MySpace reconnaissance (not to mention passing a Nunn family background check), we decided to become roommates. We arranged a time and place to meet in Florence. I arrived first, and she was late (a sign of things to come). When she finally did arrive, I greeted her with a hug and carried her sizeable luggage. Inexplicably, not even this display of chivalry could command Megan’s attention.
During that summer, we traveled together, shared many amazing experiences, and developed a close friendship. Despite all that, we had no idea what God had planned for us. In fact, in an email to a friend, Megan shared, “There is no romantic connection at all.”
The feeling was mutual.
Back Home:
When we concluded our European adventures, Megan returned to her studies in Las Vegas, and I to mine in Tucson. We kept in touch, and eventually, our friendship evolved. Megan could no longer deny her feelings towards me.
The feeling was mutual.
We started dating long distance during the summer of 2008 while I was working in San Francisco and she was working in Carson. We continued seeing each other during our final year of law school, and before graduation, we both secured clerkships in her hometown of Reno.
Things were getting serious.
Engagement:
On a cold November day in San Francisco, I took Megan to Washington Square Park. While sitting on a park bench, I told her that she was my best friend, my love, and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. Down on one knee, I asked her to marry me.
She said yes. "
