laikepo: When you desperate during exams, what will you do?
Firstly, if you're talking about DURING exam right when you're ACTUALLY sitting for it, DON'T you dare to attempt peeping at people's answers!! It's not worth it to copy people's answers and compromising your integrity in the process. Seriously, I would rather fail than cheat. Then again, that's just me.
However, if you're talking about preparation for the exam and you get desperate, it's probably due to several reasons.
1) Well, we tend to experience panic attacks when we're not ready due to:
- Procrastination
How so?? by studying/doing work at the very last minute or rather at the 11th hour!
- Plain laziness to study
Waiting for the answers to pop up in one's dreams.. well, DREAM ON!
2) You feel like you're running out of time and you STILL have SO much more to study! and with so little time and so much to study, you start to panic! and when you start to panic, everything that you actually studied flies out the window!
3) Sometimes, one does not procrastinate nor are they lazy. It's just so that not EVERYONE is naturally smart. Hence, difficulty to grasp what they're studying. And when you DON'T understand what you're reading, it's harder to retain it in your memory posing a problem in answering questions.
There are so many other possible scenarios that the three stated above. Tell me more if you can think of any. So, when one is in either of the dilemma mentioned above, what can we possibly do to ensure it doesn't sabotage us in our exams??
1) Make sure you do ample studying ahead of time by:
- NOT procrastinating
Run through your notes at least once BEFORE and another time AFTER every lecture and tutorials. If not, make sure you start studies at least a month before finals!!
- Be hardworking
After all, "NO PAIN, NO GAIN!" In life, if you want something so badly, you got to work for it. Nothing comes easy. Ever!
2) TELL your brain to STOP panicking!! Calm yourself down by taking a couple of deep breathes. Your mind is seriously a very powerful tool. We are so easily brainwashed and influenced by advertisements (for example clothings, electronic gadgets like cameras and handphones, food & beverages like Mc Donald's and KFC), media such as movies, tv series, news, MTV, radio programmes and even our friends!
Sometimes, you may think it's not so cool to do something or that something doesn't taste or looks that great. However, if majority think otherwise, you probably would just revise your opinion to follow everyone else! and don't bother denying it... tsk tsk.
So, tell yourself to STOP panicking, to FOCUS and that finally, YOU CAN DO IT! Just keep saying it in your mind or outloud. And you have to believe in what you say if not it won't be effective.
3) Don't despair if you fall in the category of not so smart people. Make it a point to ask for help. Don't shy away from seeking guidance/help! and don't belittle yourself or looking down at yourself. Of course, it also helps if one does not judge oneself too harshly. Be realistic when you set your goals may it be studies or just about anything.
If the person you approach for help doesn't seem to want to help. Don't give up. Ask another person may it be your lecturer, your friend, school/college/uni/work mate. Keep asking and you'll definitely meet someone with a heart of gold who would lend a helping hand. This, I speak from experience.
So, this is my advise that I have for you, Laikepo and anyone else who may think it's relevant. Hope it is helpful and useful. Feel free to share any comments/opinions. =)
