There's nothing like getting or giving a gift that you know no one else has. Head to the historic areas of your cities or states where there are tons of antique shops. Chances are there are tons of consignment shops too with vintage stuff like scarves, belts and sunglasses. Brooklyn's Park Slope has a store called "1 of a Find" (1ofafindnyc.com) and it's a gold mine for vintage pieces that can still be worn today. Besides the fact that anything you buy will be unique, it's also a way to live green even on the holidays.

Pixel Fashion

I’ve been seeing pixels everywhere, heck as many hours as I spend on the computer, its uprising I dont’ dream of them. What started this off, is when I found Lina Karlsson on one of my Myspace excursions… She doesn’t have a lot written about her, but I really like how she has integrated the pixel aesthetic into the knits…


What do the Spring 2009 collections from Viktor & Rolf, Lucian Matis, Giles Deacon, Filippa K, and Dries Van Noten all have in common? Pixels. And it was an unexpected post by The Coveted that reminded me just how in love I am with these little blocks of color.

Now, just sit on our pixel sofa and watch the pixel fashion runway.

When I see these fashion trend, Atari console always comes in my mind first.
I remember PacMan(the pixel type) and other pixel type games.
It's amazing how fashion designers reconstruct thing into a magnificent art.

Fashion Runway

Now that the runways are a medium for just about everything — celebrity, marketing, corporations — you can never be sure of the message, if there is one at all. On Monday, before the Carolina Herrera show, guests entering the Bryant Park tents were offered samples of Tasti D-Lite ice cream. A moment later the socialite Tinsley Mortimer stopped to pose in her black lace outfit. Beyond her, some women in pink evening dresses held out trays of Evian.

So many designers seem strangely displaced, through no fault of their own. Miguel Adrover, who came to New York on behalf of a German company, Hess Natur, which produces clothes from organic materials, turned his creative energy to nine pieces of high conceptual fashion. Maybe a museum will acquire them.

The clothes Isaac Mizrahi showed on Monday wouldn’t spark appreciation or desire except among connoisseurs or people familiar with his history and love of drama. There were coats and dresses that closed like a paper wrapper; neon underpinnings that mixed couture and sport; fuzzy, caterpillar-like skirts, a ball gown with a crackled pattern in gold. Seeing the clothes, he should have done the costumes for the new remake of “The Women”— that is, if the film had been given an arch style.
Women love to exercise their fantasies, and that is why we have designers. Ms. Von Furstenberg’s message was a simple one, as it always is, dressed up in memories of the 1960s and Diana Vreeland, who was famous for saying things like “Bluejeans are the most beautiful things since the gondola.”

Young designers tend to dress the women around them rather than provide direction of their own. Alexander Wang’s collection had the moment-to-moment quality of young urbanites who buy on Friday to wear on Saturday, and so you have the feeling that the clothes — the bloomers and perforated leather basketball shorts, the oversize tunic tops, the leggings — had been tweaked rather than wholly designed.

Look of the Week: Ms. Hillary Duff

Hilary Duff was scene at Blessings and a Backpack event last week in this fashionable look. She paired a simple black dress with a sweater and some bright accessories to stand out in the crowd. We've replicated Hilary's look, including all the accessories, for under $200.

We found a simple black dress from Rampage that can work in your wardrobe with many different outfits. We paired it with a simple black cardigan from Old Navy to replicate Hilary. For accessories, we picked an oversized plaid scarf, a big buckle belt, and gladiator style shoes.

Cocktail Rings for Designer Clothes

As the new austerity enforced by economic gloom attempts to pervade every aspect of modern life it is always worth remembering that, although the house might be worth less than you paid for it and that you'd be insane to buy a new or even second hand car let alone a gas guzzler SUV or sports car, you must still try to have fun!

Some have taken this seriously and have been hard at play in high-end shoe shops whilst others have opted to brighten up their jewellery collections. Everybody still wants nice, high quality things, but would rather not pay too much for them... Time to reacquaint and rediscover the joy of semi-precious jewellery. Handmade, exquisite items that don't cost thousands of pounds, just look like they do!

Although Cocktail Rings are nothing new, the trend for very expensive diamond jewellery could fade with the GDP and this year is becoming all about big rings and bold colours like amethysts and peridots set in 18ct gold. They are big and they are clever! Although these items are not what would be described as “everyday wear” they do fulfill the main aim: to make their owners happy! The “Feel-good factor” is not something to be underestimated.
